‘I Never Felt More Alone Than When I Was With You’
Ruth Parker
Thursday 12 October 5-8pm
Friday 13 October 5-8pm
The exhibition brings together research created in the initial months of Parker’s artist residency at Leeds City College. Exploring complex relationships with technology, nature and our sense of connection and belonging, with an emphasis on how the experience of lockdown heightened these interactions. She investigates the idea that people were simultaneously finding a deeper connection with their natural environment whilst becoming isolated through living out their personal lives online. Parker has been exploring glass as the intersection point between the tangible and the virtual. The canvas through which we view the vast majority of digital devices, it’s is at once an omnipresent force and also the point at which the concrete disappears. A signifier of potential tensions between the physical and emotional, a fragile barriers that exist between the two and how we move and (dis)connect between these different states.
