All That Lives: Grief Series Lying in State

Here lies The Grief Series; a body of work. A job. A community. An identity. Daily hours or love and attention that is now at its end.

Friday 27 October - Saturday 4 November

It makes visible the losses that go unmarked. The losses that are not about a heart stopping beating but carry Grief or anger or relief and more too. The ends of jobs, relationships, identities. The homes, or chapters of life or parts of ourselves we leave behind. These losses change us. How might we pay attention to them and give them a good ending? With tears or celebrations or a symbolic act? A divorce cake or a wake for missed opportunities.

By spending time with our endings do we get better at talking about them? Better at letting our feelings crash over our heads then subside. Rather than bottling them up and carrying them with us heavily on our backs.
What loss has gone uncelebrated for you? Is there something you want to mark, alone or with others? We will grieve it with you.

Grief Series: Lying in state is a participatory exhibition exploring how we mark endings and rites of passage in our lives. It is a part of All That Lives, 9 day celebration of those we’ve loved and lost and sends Ellie’s thirteen year long body of work, The Grief Series, out in style.
